Well the Sox seem to be in a bit of a slump right now. We can only hope they are not on the verge of blowing things for the entire 2017 season. They have lost 4 in a row and not only lost but have been blown out in three of the four games. Against the Orioles they were outscored 38-10 in three games and in the last game the offense forgot to show up. Before the Orioles, they were also blown out by the Indians and with Chris Sale on the mound. They had better get it together soon or it is going to be a poor end to an otherwise pretty good season. They still have a month to go and act like they are done for the year.
In the game Fister pitched well, giving up only the two runs in the 1st inning, but the offense forgot to show up and managed only 1 run, though all game they had opportunities to score runs. They left about 15 men on base with 10 or more of them in scoring position and just could not get the hit they needed to win the game. They went 1 for 13 with runners in scoring position and all it would have taken was one more big hit to win. They ended up losing this one 2-1. They now have a 6-10 record against the Orioles this season and were swept by them, being swept a rare occurrence for them this season.
They have started to slump at a really bad time. They now have only a 2.5 game lead over the Yankees for the division and could conceivably fall out of the playoffs completely if they continue to play as they have been the last 4 games. We have more than a month to go and now is the time to play well, which they were doing until the last four. Let’s hope the leadership on the team can pull them out of it and we can begin to see good baseball out of them again.
There have been some key injuries, but Pedroia is due back soon. Maybe he can get them rolling again as he is the senior player on the team. All I know is they had better get it together soon or all will be lost. I have just arrived back from my annual trip to Maine and as soon as I got home they started to play poorly. I don’t think that has anything to do with it but lets hope they recover soon as I am now able to watch the games live again on mlbtv.com and I want to see them play as they did before the slump before the year is out. Go Figure!
Well, it’s time to put up or shut up and I guess we will see in the next month what the team is really made of. We still have a good shot at the playoffs and beyond and this could be our year. This is the second time only this season that the team has lost 4 in a row and we can only hope they will snap out of it again and begin to play tonight. They take on the Blue Jays with Drew Pomeranz on the hill. I’d say their chances are pretty good. Still. it has been the pitching that has really let them down lately in both the starters and the pen. Let’s hope it doesn’t continue and they can get back on track.
Anyway, as I said, it is time for the Sox to show us what they are really made of. It is crunch time and the next few weeks will determine the success or failure of the entire season. If they don’t play well and win now the rest of the season won’t matter, so they had better do it now. We will be waiting for them, but don’t have a whole lot of patience this time of year. They had better play now or go home with their tale between their legs. We will have to see how it all works out. Anyway, Go Sox!
