The Sox won another one on Sunday. That makes 4 in a row, which is about the most they have managed to win in a row all season. Betts went 3 for 4 with an RBI and a run. Ortiz hit a 2 run homer, his 22nd and Bogaerts got the other RBI while going 0-3. Price pitched an outstanding game going 8 shutout innings and giving up only 4 hits. Many hope that we will see this Price for the rest of the way so that we may justify his multi-million dollar contract and finally get the ace pitcher we have been looking for all season. Ziegler closed out the game striking out 2 and not allowing a hit in the 9th. It was good to see the quality pitching we have seen the past few games and we can only hope it continues. The Sox won this one in fine fashion with a final of 4-0.
Well, it’s time for the All-Star break and the Sox are looking pretty good going into the second half of the season. They are eleven games over .500 and 2 games behind the Orioles for the division lead. Toronto is tied with us at this time. It will be a 3 team race for the finish in the second half and if they can continue to win for the month of July, we will be in good shape for the final push in August and September. We are 7-2 for the month and if these winning ways continue will vastly improve over June and give us some hope for the playoffs come October.
There is still a long way to go, so all we can do is hang in there and hang around for the division lead until the end. We will see how it goes after the break, but once again we have some hope for the final result. We need to just keep plugging away as we have all season, except for June, and all should be well.
We have made some roster moves that can only help going forward, but have also suffered some injuries that may hurt. I don’t know how soon Holt and Ramirez can get back on the field, but we will miss Kimbrel as he is out for most of the way, perhaps, though we may get him back toward the end. If we can hang in there without further injury, we may be alright. We will have to wait and see how it goes. Still, we fans have some hope again, so let’s go out and get them now and all the way. Go Sox!
