The Sox got a good win last night. They never trailed in this one and led from the 2nd inning on. Travis Shaw had a good game for a change going 3 for 5 with 5 RBI’s and a solo home run in the 2nd that got the scoring started. Ramirez also went 2 for 2 with an RBI and a run scored. He walked 3 times. Bradley went 2 for 5 with an RBI and 2 runs scored and Ortiz got the other RBI going 2 for 4. Porcello pitched the best game we have seen for a while giving up 1 run on 5 hits and going 6 innings. He has gone 5 or more innings in 25 straight starts now. It was a good game overall, but they still managed to squander a couple of scoring chances though they did much better than they have of late with runners in scoring position. The final was 8-2.
Price is on the mound this afternoon so the Sox have a good chance of ending their road trip at 3-3 and the month of June at 11-15 with a win. I will take that record for June as badly as it seems they have played this month. July is beginning soon and it can only get better from here. The team has not yet announced who the No.5 starter will be, but E-Rod has been sent to Pawtucket to try to work out some of his problems which include pitch tipping and command. I think that is where he belongs for now.
It has been a long and difficult June for the team and I am glad to see it come to a close. We can push forward into July and hope things get better as they should. We are not facing the tough schedule we had in June so things will hopefully look up going forward. Still we did not prove very well that we can play with the best in June so, if we make the playoffs, we may not go very far. We will have to do better against some of the same teams that beat us this month. Let’s hope we play better next time around.
We do face the Rangers again next week, but hopefully in Fenway Park we will stand a better chance of beating them. I think they have a distinct home advantage, as teams that come to their home park are not used to playing in such heat and humidity. I think it showed for the Red Sox as they seemed unable to play good ball in Arlington. I think they will do better at home, but I guess that remains to be seen. The Rangers are busy beating up on the Yankees in a 4 game series right now.
Well, lets move forward and face the new month with a new resolve to win games. We are not in too bad shape at this point, but are 4.5 games behind the Orioles in second. If the playoffs were decided now, we would be playing the wild card game, but we want to win the division before it is all over. To do so we need to win and win a lot. It would be nice to go on a 7 or 8 game winning streak, which we haven’t done even once this year. The Orioles have won 6 straight, so we need to start winning to keep pace with them. Will we ever catch them? Maybe; there is a long way to go.
We are nearing the half way point in the season and on Monday the Sox will play their 81st game which is exactly half way. We need to win more than we loose going forward and not have another month like June. If we can do that we will probably make the playoffs, yet. Let’s not give up on the team just yet. Let’s keep plodding along and win most of the time and not look too bad when we do lose. Let’s go get ’em. Go Sox!
