The Sox won an exciting game last night. Price had one of the worst nights of his career, giving up 6 runs in 2.1 innings, so the game seemed lost. The Sox would hit 3, 2 run home runs, one in the 9th, to come from behind and win the game. Ramirez hit one first in the 4th, Bradley hit one in the 6th and then the big one in the 9th was hit by Betts. Overall, Betts went 2 for 5, Ramirez 1 for 3 with 2 walks and 2 runs, Bradley 1 for 3 with 2 walks and 2 runs and Leon went 1 for 1 with a big pinch hit double and an RBI in the 9th. The Sox were 3 runs behind going into the 9th and scored 4, then held on in the bottom of the inning to win. The pen did a great job after Price’s terrible start and gave up only 1 run in 6.2 innings. The final was 8-7.
I have been thinking more about having a winning record for the month of June. They would have to win the final 5 games (7 in a row in all) to do it. I am,of course, really dreaming now, but stranger things have happened. If they could end the month of June with a good winning streak, they could still salvage the overall record for the month! Don’t hold your breath, but who knows?
Wright is on the mound tonight so I think we have a good chance of winning. He is hard to hit for any team so if we can keep their scoring low, we might pull it off. This is really the game of the 3 that we have the best chance of winning. Last night’s game was a true gift to us, so we might win the series with the win tonight. Who knows, maybe Buchholz will have a great game, which he hasn’t had all season, for game 3 and we can sweep the red hot Rangers. If the last two games are any indication, we may be on our way to crawling out of the hole we have been in for the whole month of June.
See how, when we win I get great expectations and want us to go on winning. When we lose I am about ready to give up for the season. I am still not convinced we can make the playoffs, but, hey, we are not even half-way. Who knows what may happen. They have won the last 2 games despite bad pitching. They were losing game after game despite good pitching before that. Can they really get the pitching and the bats to work together for a change? We will see. Maybe they can.
It was good to see Ramirez, Betts and Bradley contributing to the win last night. We need them to go on hitting as we move forward. When they are slumping, the whole team struggles. If they can get going again, the rest of the team will follow. Hopefully, they won’t have to score 8 runs every game to win, but 4 or 6 may be enough for positive results. July may be a much better month, but let’s close out June with a bang also. We play Tampa Bay after Texas and they have lost 8 in row so it looks good for us closing out the month. Maybe we can’t win 7 in a row, but we can win most of the 5 remaining so that we have momentum moving into July.
We still have a long way to go and surely there will be ups and downs from here. I am so ready for a positive trend right now, though. We can close out the month with a bang and jump into the next month with bats blazing. That’s what I want to see. I’ll take the rest of the season if I can see that, whatever comes.
We are nearing the All-Star break so we need to be playing well going forward. The second half of the season will really determine now the overall season goes. The last two come from behind victories are encouraging, but they are only two games. Still, the Sox haven’t won very many games in that fashion all season, so the fact that they have done so twice in a row may bode well for the future. Maybe we can still give Papi the season he deserves for his last one. We will see. For now, let’s just keep playing and moving forward. Go Sox!
