The Sox blew out the Twins again on Saturday. Bogaerts went 4 for 5 with 3 RBI’s and a homer. Bradley went 1 for 4, scored twice and had 3 RBI’s on 1 homer. Ortiz went 3 for 5 and scored a run. Young went 1 for 4 with 2 RBI’s and a 2 runs scored. Pedroia, however went 0 for 6 and ended his hitting streak at 16 games. Now, no one has a long hitting streak, though 5 players just finished streaks of 14 or more recently. Rodriquez did not pitch effectively and gave up 4 runs on 6 hits in 4.2 innings. He just wan’t sharp the whole way. I’m telling you, it is the pitching that is going to be the downfall of the Sox. They are struggling to play .500 ball right now and the pitching is what is letting them down for the most part. It needs to improve, but I fear it will not. Anyway, the Sox won this one 15-4!
Not much to say about this game as it started as a close contest in the early innings, but turned into a blow out in the latter innings. The Sox scored 5 in the 8th and 5 in the 9th in what was otherwise a 5-4 ball game. Most of the runs in the later innings were given to them by poor play and errors in the field by the Twins. The Sox did not really earn this win but I guess we will take it. I would rather see them play good ball and thus win games instead of having them given to them on a silver platter. I am still not impressed with the way the team is playing right now.
Porcello is on the mound tomorrow, so if he pitches even half way decent we should win the game. I am really worried about the pitching right now as I can see them, the way they are pitching both as starters and in the bullpen, being the reason the Sox do not win the division and perhaps do not go to the playoffs. It is the pitching again that is going to hold the team back, as last year; though it is somewhat improved, it is still not good enough. We need to bring in a couple of good arms before long or it’s going to be a disappointing season.
Well, let’s go out and win Sunday. We really should have no problem with the Twins and if we lose should truly be ashamed of our performance. Let’s get to 12 over .500 again and build from there. Toronto will soon overtake us and pass us for the division lead if we don’t start to play better now. I can see it happening probably within the month of June and certainly before the All Star break.
We are just not playing very good baseball right now and are not long for leading the division or even 2nd in the division as we are right now. If we don’t improve soon it is going to be a disappointing season. Let’s get out there and play ball, how about! Go Sox!
