The Sox stomped all over the Twins, as they should. Bogaerts went 4 for 5 with 4 RBI’s including a 3 run homer in the 5th. He now leads the majors in number of hits and batting average both. Bradley went 2 for 5 with 2 RBI’s and Vazquez had a good game going 2 for 5 with an RBI. Ramirez finally got a hit and an RBI to show for it. Wright pitched another great game giving up only 1 unearned run. He now leads the majors in ERA among starters. It was a good game overall, one the Sox should not have lost, as they should win the next two also. The final was 8-1.
It is good to see Wright continue to pitch well. I think he is better this year than Tim Wakefield ever was and seems to have better command of his knuckle ball. Vazquez did a good job catching him as he allowed only one past ball, which led to the only run. Ramirez has really been good at first base. He committed his first error of the season last night which set up the unearned run the Twins scored.
He has really been a pleasant surprise defensively and has really helped the team, though he has been unable to produce offensively for a while now. Farrell probably should have moved him out of the number 5 spot as he had three chances to drive in runs and managed only one RBI on a ground out. They could move Bradley into the 5 spot and increase our chances of scoring when the top of the order gets on base. I think it is about time to move Hanley.
Poppy continues to hit and is in the top 5 in the AL in both average and hits. He leads in extra base hits and doubles. He is really having a good year for his final season. We could almost hope to see him back next season the way he is hitting, but he is determined to retire, I think. He will be sorely missed in the lineup next year and we will have trouble replacing him. No one can really take his place and do what he has done over the years.
Well, Rodriquez takes the mound for us this afternoon. Let’s hope he can bounce back from a shaky outing last time and have a good game. He should do well against the Twins, but we will see. We have a good chance of winning against the Twins, no matter who is on the mound. As i have said, if we do not sweep them, we are probably still slumping as a team.
The Orioles lost last night to the Blue Jays, so we are now only 1 game out of first. Toronto is still hanging out at 4.5 back and the Yankees, who have won 5 straight, are now over the .500 mark, 5.5 games back. Tampa Bay is 7.5 back in last place. Anyone could still win the division as it continues, like last year, to be tight. We are 10 games over .500 again and going for 12 and beyond. We should see that again this week. We play Baltimore again in a 3 gamer next week, so the battle for the division lead continues. Let’s hope we can come out on top.
Well, let’s just keep plugging away, winning when we can and still looking good when we don’t. The month of June will tell a lot how the rest of the season will probably go. We are playing a lot of teams with winning records this month, so it should be a good test. If we can come out where we are or even better, we will able to say we are having a good season. Let’s win it all for Poppy in his final season! Go Sox!
