The Sox won a good one yesterday. Wright pitched another great game giving up 2 runs on 4 hits and going all 9 innings. This was his 3rd complete game of the season, which ties him for 1st in baseball. The Sox hit well again with 11 hits, which makes 32 games of 10 or more hits this season, leading baseball. Bogaerts extended his streak and went 2 for 4 driving in 2. Betts went 2 for 5 and scored twice. Ortiz hit his 14th homer in the 8th, Bradley his 9th in the 6th and Hernandez his first major league homer, a 3 run shot, in the 8th. The Sox took care of the Orioles in grand fashion with a final score of 7-2.
This puts the team 2 games ahead in 1st place in the division. If they win one more against the Orioles they are assured to come out of the series in the top position. If yesterday was any indication it should be a good series. 3 more to go and if we can win 2 of them… We should come out of this series looking good. It is still possible to lose the series, but not likely as we should be able to pull out at least one more win, if not all 3. Let’s go team!
Wright continues to pitch well. He had one rough inning, the 5th, during which he gave up the 2 runs, but was near perfect the rest of the way. This year he has been throwing the knuckle ball at least as well, if not better than, Tim Wakefield ever did. He should be a staple on the pitching staff for some time to come, if he continues to do well. Everything is looking good for him and the Sox like having a knuckle baller on the the team. He can get the hitters out and set a nice diversion for the rest the staff. He can disrupt the hitting for many a team and make the rest of the staff look even better.
Well, tonight ends the month of May. The Sox have done well in the month and hope to have a great month of June. We are firing on all cylinders and all is looking good. Things can change in a hurry with injuries and the like, but as I have said before, our young players may just get through the season injury free. We will have to see how it goes.
Rodriguez is on the mount tonight for his first start of the season. Let’s hope he can come off the DL and set them down. He has looked good in his last couple of rehab starts in Pawtucket. It will be good to have him in the rotation if he can pitch consistently as well as we know he can. He had some trouble with consistency last year, but is young. If he can get it together a little more this year, all will be well. He is lights out when he is on. He had some trouble with tipping pitches last year, but if he can avoid that, we will have another quality arm in the rotation. All is looking good and he should give us a good chance of winning tonight.
So, let’s just keep plugging away and giving it the ol’ heave ho. We have a long way to go, but by all indications it should be an enjoyable ride for Sox fans. We are 11 games over .500 and may go up from here. Let’s win a couple more to recover from the 3 game losing streak we just came off. It is fun to win! Let’s keep rolling! Go Sox!
