The Sox got the outstanding pitching they need, but didn’t need it Saturday as they routed the Indians. Betts went 3 for 5, scored 3 times and drove in 5 via two homers, one a grand slam. The team managed 13 hits overall and won the game easily. Kelly pitched an excellent game giving up only 1 hit and no runs in 6.2 innings. He had a no hitter going until the last batter he faced, who laced a double into left center field. Then the bullpen did it’s job giving up only one run on 1 hit in the 9th. It was a great game for the Sox! The final was 9-1.
The Sox looked good, so the threat of a major slump seems distant. They did get the bats going again and added to their 10 plus hits per game total which they lead the league in. Bogaerts and Bradley both extended their hitting streaks to 14 and 26 respectively. It was a well played game, although they did commit 2 errors. They were the only blemishes on an otherwise almost perfect game.
It is encouraging to see them hitting away again and despite losing 3 of 5, I think we are still in good shape and not really slumping. All looks good for the future. We are still a game behind the Orioles at this point, as they also won on Saturday. Still we are defiantly in contention for tops in the AL East. Third place is 4.5 games back, so all looks well for us. We just need to keep on keeping on and grinding away and all should be well.
Porcello is on the mound Sunday so we should stand a good chance of winning. It is good to have Kelly back off the DL and pitching as he did Saturday. If things can continue as they are we should be looking good in the pitching department, too. As I say almost every day, the sky is the limit for this team, if we can stay healthy. They are proving its so far this season and I can’t see any reason why it will not continue. Go Sox!
