The Sox won one to avoid the sweep. They have yet to be swept by anybody this season. Betts and Bradley both hit solo home runs and the rest of the scoring was on RBI’s by Vazquez. It was good to see him get some timely hits last night. He went 2 for 4 with 3 RBI’s. We could use him hitting in the bottom of the order, as I think we would be better off with Bradley there. The no. 9 spot coupled with the No.1 spot in the batting order would produce a lot of runs with Bradley and Betts hitting there. With Bradley in the no. 7 spot there won’t be much production from the bottom of the order. Price pitched well for his second start in a row. Let’s hope we will see this from now on out of him. He went 7.1 innings and gave up 2 runs on 5 hits. It was a good game overall as the Sox had 10 hits, which means they have hit 10 or more in 29 games already this season. The final was 5-2.
Baltimore won, as did Tampa Bay. We are still a half game out of 1st and the Devil Rays are still 5 games back in third. Toronto lost their 5th straight and the Yankees won to pull within a half game of 4th place. I can’t see them staying in last for too much longer, but I can’t really see the Blue Jays in last either. Still if Tampa Bay stays hot it will probably be one of them. The Devil Rays have just swept the Blue Jays in a 3 game series. Soon we will all be playing head to head with division rivals and the race will probably tighten up then.
On Friday we take on the Indians who are managed by the Red Sox former manager Tito Francona. It should be a good series as the Indians are 20-17 and in second in the AL Central. Let’s hope we can at least win the series, but they are a pretty good team so we will see.
Buchholz starts for us on Friday so we don’t really know what to expect from our pitching. If he can just avoid the one bad inning he will probably do well. Let’s hope we can get the bats going again against Kluber who has a 4.30 ERA. Don’t really know what to expect for the game, but we will be watching. It could go either way!
Jackie Bradley Jr. continues to impress. He made some great running catches in center field last night , as he generally does and extended hit hitting streak to 24 games. He continues to come through when the team needs it. He is having his first great year at the plate and perhaps has overcome what has been holding him back for the past 2 years. We can only hope he will stay hot as the team needs him to. We have others should he slump a little, but we will need him hitting for the long haul. So far, so good!
Well, another game, another victory. We are still 9 games over .500 and doing just fine. As I say nearly every time, we just need to keep doing what we are doing and hope we don’t have any major injuries. If the young team can stay healthy and based on their youth there is a good chance they will, we should be in good shape for the long haul. Time will tell. For the mean time: Go Sox!
