The Sox won a good game yesterday. Poppy was the hero again hitting a homer in the 3rd and then getting both the tying RBI in the bottom of the 9th and the winning RBI in the 11th. He had another great game and shows how he plans to make his final season his best ever. Buchholz did not pitch badly but had his characteristic bad inning in the 2nd when he gave up a grand slam that had the Sox behind most of the game. Bogaerts had a good game going 3 for 6 and scoring 3 times (twice ahead of Poppy for the decisive runs) and having an RBI. The team managed 14 hits again and continue to be in double digits for hits every game of late. The bullpen did a great job for 5 innings and did not allow a single run thus making it possible for the team to win 6-5.
Unfortunately, the Orioles won their 7th straight so the Sox are still a game out of first in the division. We continue to hang in there and battle for that position. The Orioles have to lose a few sometime. but, alas, maybe the Sox will too. Everybody in the division won yesterday, except Toronto, who is now 5.5 games out of 1st in 3rd. The race is shaping up so far to be good for the Sox and the Orioles.
If the Sox continue to hit the ball like they have been the last 10 games or so I don’t think it will be long before we own first place. Whether or not we can stay there remains to be seen, of course. It is a long season and even the Yankees, who are 8 games out of 1st could contend before it is all over. We just need to continue to hang in there and enjoy being near the top.
O’Sullivan is on the mound for the Sox today. He did pretty well in his last outing except for 1 bad inning. Let’s hope he can do as well the whole way today. The Sox should have a good chance of winning unless he completely falls apart The team is now 23-14 and a win today will make them 10 games over .500. This a good position to be in at this point in the season. We can only continue to climb from here. Let’s all get together and cheer them on. Let’s go all the way this year! Go Sox!
