The Sox played another great game last night. How about that Pedroia? He went 3 for 5, had 5 RBI’s and hit two home runs, one a Grand Slam! He could not have had a better night. Big Poppy had a great night, too. He went 3 for 5 (3 doubles) and had 2 RBI’s. The final result 9-4 and another win. That makes 4 in a row and a 12-9 record that puts them solidly in 2nd place in the AL East and a half game out. Way to go Sox.
Admittedly they are currently playing a struggling Braves team, but if they can get used to winning for a while, we may be in great shape before long. It may just turn into a great season, yet. If they keep playing as they did last night the sky is the limit!
Steven Wright pitched another gem for the team. He went 7 innings, gave up only 3 hits, but 2 runs. In the 8th and 9th Layne and Barnes gave up a run each. Though it did not hurt the team, it does not really bode well for them. The bullpen continues to give up runs, almost every game when the big 3 are not used. Even the big 3 give up runs about half the time.
I don’t know what the solution is for the pen. Maybe when Smith comes back it will improve. They definitely need help our there. Maybe he will be just the shot in the arm the rest of the pen needs to get going. I think he is due back any day now, as is Rodriguez. The pitching may improve overall when they return, but I don’t see how they are ever going to send Wright to AAA as well as he is pitching.
So, the Sox are playing well as of late and winning games. Let’s hope they can get used to winning and move well forward. They take on the Yankees starting tomorrow, but we still have one more to win against the Braves. Buchholz is taking the mound. Let’s hope he can bounce back and stop having the one bad inning that seals his fate when he loses. Maybe he can pitch consistently for the whole game tonight. We can only hope.
So, things are looking up for the Sox at the moment, but they have some tough opponents coming up and need to continue to play well to stay on the plus side in winning percentage. Soon they may be in first in the division! Let’s hope all continues to go well and everyone stays healthy, well, almost everyone. The future may soon be coming up roses! Let’s Go Sox!
