The Sox played a great game last night. Price had a great night giving up only 2 runs in eight innings with 14 strikeouts. The Sox gave him eleven runs on 13 hits with everybody getting at least 1 hit except the pitchers. Shaw went 2 for 5 with 5 RBI’s and 2 runs scored. Pedroia went 2 for 4 with an RBI and 2 runs scored. Bogaerts went 3 for 5, had an RBI and also scored twice. Bradley, Ramirez and Holt all had RBI’s. Nearly everyone contributed in the 11-4 final score.
It was a good game and fun to watch. How about that Shaw. He continues to impress with the bat, although he did make a throwing error, his 4th of the season already. He does play a pretty solid third base, but does make some errors. At least none of them have effected the outcome of a game yet and haven’t hurt the Sox much.
Pedroia has been quietly being Pedroia. He is one of the best 2nd basemen in the game and has been hitting well too of late. It is good to see him healthy and playing as well as he can. He has been plagued by injury the past 2 seasons. Let’s hope he can stay healthy for the duration this year.
Bogaerts had a good game. If he continues to hit like he did in this game, we will have a lot of help for the team out of the Number 3 spot in the batting order. With him and Pedroia both hitting well, we should see lots of scoring from the top of the order. Now if Betts could just heat up a bit.
I like to see Brock Holt bat. He comes up with a lot of timely hits from the number 7 spot in the lineup and lifts the whole bottom of the order into scoring some runs. Last year we got almost nothing from the bottom of the order. With Holt anchoring it we should see a lot from those guys this season. I’d like to see Bradley heat up. Then we’d have a great 1-2 punch in the bottom of the order.
Oh, I should mention the great pitching performance of Price. If he continues to pitch like he did last night, we will get a lot of wins out of him. 14 strikeouts matched his career high. He did give up 2 runs and a few hits, but that’s not too much. He gave us 8 strong innings and gave the bullpen some much needed rest.
Pat Light came up from Pawtucket and pitched the 9th. He quickly loaded the bases on two singles and a walk. Then he got three straight ground outs that allowed 2 runs to score. I think Light was very nervous so his performance might be an indication of how well he can do when he settles down. He might be the extra arm in the pen that Farrell has been looking for of late. His next outing will show us for sure.
So, it was a good performance by the Sox. 11 runs is the most they have scored in a game so far this season. I thought they would never score 10 in a game, as often as they flirted with that number, but they finally did. Now it’s on to Boston to play two more against the Braves. Can we say–SWEEP! They are now 11-9 and have won 3 straight. They are only a half game out of first in the AL East! Can they continue to climb? We’ll see. Go Sox!
